Seeds of Death is a great idea, the T-Mat, the Ice Warriors, a plot to seed Earth with deadly fungus. With a modern treatment, tighter writing, less standing around with one arm longer than the other, running around screaming etc. it could be a really exciting story. As it is, the sixties format, spreading it all over six episodes with a whole lot of padding, makes it hard going, strictly for die-hard Doctor Who fans and anyone who wants to do a thesis on 1960s television. 8/10
Commentary Commentary is by Frazer Hines, Wendy Pad bury (Jamie and Zoe) along with director Michael Ferguson and writer Terrance Dicks. In short, four icons of classic Doctor Who. All of them have a tendency towards ‘old fogeyism’ reminiscing about how it used to be done in the good old days. But they also have fun remembering being fashion victims and other aspects of the episode that place it firmly in the 1960s. It isn’t dull, but it isn’t sparkling a lot of the time, either. 8/10
8/10 The Last Dalek is a ten minute black and white film of the making of Evil of The Dalek’s climactic scene filmed by BBC designer, Tony Cornell on an 8mm film camera. Effects designers Michaeljohn Harris and Peter Day commentate on the film. It is two old men talking about the work they did in their heyday. Strictly for the Doctor Who history buff. 8/10 TARDIS cam no 5. These are model shot sequences made by Mike Tucker. I honestly don’t know why they do them. 5/10
9/10 Photo Gallery is mostly stills from the episodes and publicity shots. There are a lot of close ups of the models of the moonbase. Nothing very spectacular. 6/10 Overall a bit of a run of the mill DVD which I was glad to have got
cheaply from an Amazon dealer. I still think the idea is a good one.
It could be rewritten for a modern audience.
