A
lot of people thought the Marion and Kristoph series would end with the
Alliance, which was posted exactly a year after the first story had been
posted at the start of 2006. When I started the series, I hadn’t
really planned that far ahead, but it was clear that the readers wanted
more, so on the series goes. There must be an end, eventually. In some
ways, it has already been written. I’ve already covered Marion’s
death in an Unfinished Business story and Chrístõ has mentioned
many times that she died when he was only six years old.
But that is still far off. And right now Marion is newly
married and embarking upon the rest of her life. This is a typical day
in which she wakes to find Kristoph already meditating in his special
room. She takes a luxurious bath and chooses her clothes for the day.
She has breakfast with her husband and he leaves for his office.
Marion spends her morning alone in her private rooms, then
entertains Lily and Aineytta for the afternoon. They talk about the things
women always talk about. Sex is one of the subjects, of course!
She looks like a woman who has known the complete love
of a Time Lord.”
“She does, Aineytta agreed. “My son takes after his father
in that respect, I think.”
Marion blushed but she could not disagree with either of them. It had
been a very passionate honeymoon.
Later, Marion and Kristoph eat dinner together and go to
bed, where they make love passionately.
Yes, life on Gallifrey is not much different to life anywhere
else. Most of the readership seem to like that. One or two people have
questioned whether life on another world would be so mundane. Gallifrey
on the occasions when it was seen on Doctor Who, always seemed a bit more
exotic than that.
But actually, I don’t think so. I think the everyday
life on Gallifrey would be much the same as anywhere else. Grand ceremonies
and rituals are for special occasions. The rest of the time, people live
in houses, they entertain each other. They go to the office. They go home.
They eat dinner and make love.
That’s how the universe works.
