So, ok, we built the cardboard cut out TARDIS console room and completed the Christmas jigsaw. But Can We Build The Airfix TARDIS?
It looks so simple. Welcome aboard, they say!
Really bring your scene to life! DAY ONE
Oh crumbs! Everything included to complete your model
Oh, mummy! I'm in trouble.
At least I recognise some of these bits
First, make all your pieces levitate with the Wingardium Leviosa spell!
I actually assembled the first part!
The First piece of painting.
Two pieces drying off
Four pirces drying off. WHY did they make these pieces blue if they had to be painted cream? (Or whatever Humnoldt No. 28 is supposed to be?
Right thats enough for one stint. Those squiggly bits need a second coat later and the console pieces need a wash coat to make them look like ceramic. But I quit for now! DAY ONE - Later
Console pieces get a 'wash' coat for the distressed look.
The phone box gets painted.
And the walls of the TARDIS
The Windows Are Painted, Too. I cut one off the panel then realised i could paint them in-situ and get less of it on my fingers!
Putting the console sections together!
And the floor section goes on.
It stayed together when I moved it from the desk to the top of the stack, so that's a good sign. DAY TWO
Saturday morning and the windows are in!
And the phone goes into place.
Decals go on. This was actually a mistake, because two of them were upside down and there was an awful lot of glue involved, threatening to spoil them.
Testing the light up lid.
It's a TARDIS roof, obviously.
And it really lights up in the dark. Day Two - Mid-Morning
Putting it together finally. The first three walls
ok, so far, so good.
Three top fascias in place - or so I thought
The fascias all broke off when I tried to put the lid on. I was TOO sparing with the glue. Back to Square One.
The background goes in quite smoothly. So that's something at least
So does the console. But now I've got problems. Note the wobbly scenery
Three-quarters of an hour latr, having removed all the fascias and reglued all the walls, the roof goes on at last.
The Phone cupboard actually opens!
So does the front door! Isn't THAT beautiful!
I gave it a bit of a repaint to touch up the overglued bits.
And here it is, in company with my TARDIS collection
Looking like it really belong there.
What's the Plural of TARDIS again?
Close up, looking pretty darn professional, I think! But it was a lot harder than it should have been! After Lunch....
Body parts in a jar
Heads, arms and legs to be painted
And first parts of the Doctor's body. Ready for tomorrow DAY THREE
The first bits of The Doctor get painted
The Doctor's complexion takes on colour and so does Martha. Kind of looks like a bad road accident
The hair colour has been added
This looks just a bit strange
So does this. A very bit weird
The coat painted on the rack
Trousers and sleeves set to dry
All of the bits painted and waiting for assembly
A partially completed Doctor figure
He's completely 'armless, at the moment
Finished, finally. But it wasn't easy. The coat was a lot of trouble.
Standing by his own TARDIS Next, Martha! DAY FOUR
Trousers painted and hung up to dry
Upper body assembled. Isn't that weird
fine detail added to the face
Trousers assembled and ready for their stonewashed look
The completed Martha needs her accessories
Standing on her own two feet
She did have earrings but they fell off and got lost. Well, how daft is it wearing dangly earrings and travelling with The Doctor
The figure was easy. The hard part was assembling the handbag and jacket
But on the tenth try I got it together and hee she is, ready to hitch a lift with The Doctor
The pair together at last
