Catherine Tate is arguably the most accomplished actor
ever to be cast as a Doctor Who companion. She already had three major
awards before she was cast as Donna Noble and won a National Television
Awards for Most Popular Comedy in the year between her first appearance
in Doctor Who and her full debut in the 2008 series. She is a writer
as well as an actor and has been nominated for BAFTAs in both capacities.
As Donna Noble she has brought a different dynamic to Doctor Who,
being capable of playing comedy and drama equally well. Her ability
to improvise proved fully effective in the opening episode of the
season, when she had to act without any dialogue in the scene in which
Donna and The Doctor spot each other through two windows and a room
inbetween. She promises to be a popular companion.
