Leela travelled with the Doctor between The Face of Evil and The Invasion of Time.

Leela was a member of the warrior Sevateem tribe. She had just been exiled for heresy when she met the Doctor, who closely resembled the tribe's god, Xoanon. She was afraid of him at first but came to trust him and helped him find out the truth about her people. With no place in the tribe she joined him in his travels, proving herself fiercely loyal to The Doctor. He was sometimes abrupt with her. He disapproved of her tendancy to kill first and ask questions later, but he recognised that her simple native logic often made sense of complicated situations, and that 'advanced' society was not necessarily superior to her world.

She often struggled with concepts and technology beyond her understanding, but she made an effort to learn.

After the Sontarans' attempt to invade the Doctor's home planet, Leela decided to remain there with Commander Andred, who she had fallen in love with.

Louise Jameson was born on April 20th, 1951 in Wanstead, London. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and spent two years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing in Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, King Lear, and Blithe Spirit. Other stage appearances include the first production of Passion Play.

She has had a number of successful TV roles, including Leela in Doctor Who, Blanche Simmons in Tenko and Rosa Di Marco in Eastenders.

She reprised the character of Leela in the charity special Dimensions in Time and for the Doctor Who audio plays produced by Big Finish Productions.

Louise Jameson is the subject of MJTV's The Actor Speaks Volume 5, where she discusses herself, her acting career and the various series she has been in.

In 2007, Louise Jameson will be touring nationally in her one-woman show, Face Value, inspired by her near decision to have a face-lift.
