Nyssa travelled with the Doctor between Keeper of Traken and Terminus.

She was the aristocratic daughter of Counsel Tremas, who had been chosen to become the next Keeper (a position of great importance). The Master planned to use Tremas's investiture to give him a new regeneration cycle, and was renewed when he merged with Tremas, killing her father.

The Watcher brought Nyssa, now orphaned and alone, to Logopolis where she was re-united with The Doctor and Adric as well as new companion, Tegan. She witnessed his regeneration and continued to travel with the Fifth Doctor, forming a close affection for him. When they arrived at Terminus, Nyssa was infected by lazar's disease, and after being cured by the Garm she decided to stay behind to help the Vanir research how others could be helped.

Sarah Sutton was born 12 December 1961 in Basingstoke, Hampshire. She was a child actor in the 1970s. Her first ‘grown up’ role was that of Nyssa of Traken in The Keeper of Traken, a one off part initially, but later she was offered a role as a regular companion. Nyssa began travelling with Tom Baker’s last adventure and continued with Peter Davison’s Doctor until 1983.

Her final full serial of Doctor Who was Terminus, written by Stephen Gallagher and directed by Mary Ridge, in which she notoriously removed her skirt, effectively playing out the rest of the serial in her undergarments. The scripted reason for this was that she was feeling unwell and feverish; in an interview, Sutton described it as "a present for the fans".

After Terminus, she made a brief appearance in Peter Davison's final serial, The Caves of Androzani, but aside from that since leaving Doctor Who she has done very little acting, focussing instead on raising her daughter, although she has made appearances as Sarah Dryden in Casualty (the 1989 episode "Charity"), and as Wendy in the serial Unnatural Pursuits (1991, written by Simon Gray and starring Alan Bates).

Sarah reprised the role of Nyssa in 1993, in the Doctor Who Children in Need special Dimensions in Time, and subsequently in several of the Big Finish Productions Doctor Who spin-off audio plays from 1999 onwards.

She has appeared in various other television programmes including Alice Through the Looking Glass (1974) as Alice, The Moon Stallion (1978) as Diana Purwell and The Crucible (1980) as Susannah Walcott.
