 The Eighth Doctor broke the mould. No more the aloof, emotionally untouchable alien, he made the first tentative steps towards an ordinary relationship with a woman that had ever been seen on Doctor Who. He went as far as to kiss a woman and was seen as a far more human, vulnerable and romantic figure than ever before. The revelation that he was half-human - on his mother's side, explained a lot about the Doctor's character and his background. one of his mysteries was, at long last, laid bare.
