Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson
known to her friends as Reinette, and to history as Madame de Pompadour,
was the mistress of King Louis XV, very nearly became the lover of
the Doctor. Certainly they became very close platonic friends in the
course of his quest to find out why clockwork droids wanted her head.
The Doctor described her as an accomplished and bright woman, and
so she proved, coping with finding herself on a futuristic space ship
after passing behind a mirror. It was she, who worked out how The
Doctor could get back to his TARDIS through the fireplace in her room.
The Doctor clearly adored her, as did King Louis.
