– The Plague Carriers
The
Plague Carriers were clones grown in order to be infected with every
known disease to provide the antibodies that cured the paying customers
of the New Earth hospital. They were kept in small cells and fed by
intravenous tubes all their lives. Some of them, despite this, had
developed sentience, and when Cassandra’s sabotage set them
free they went in search of help. They seemed to be murderous zombies,
killing everyone they touched, but in fact it was the touch of another
being that they sought. They needed their souls healing as well as
their bodies. The Doctor did both when he showered them with the ‘cure’
and then showed them how to pass it on by reaching out to hold hands,
hug, touch each other. They became a new race of Humans which the
people of New Earth had to accept and make provision for.
