Wilfred Mott was the owner of a newspaper stand in London. When everyone else evacuated, he stayed, despite having no customers to sell his papers to. He refused to be scared off by the aliens who had ruined Christmas two years running. He has a Parachute Regiment badge on his red woolly hat and salutes the Queen on TV.

It later transpired that Wilfred is Donna Noble’s grandfather, presumably father of Sylvia Noble, her mother. If so, he could not be more different to her. She is a snob, and a nag. He likes to get away to his allotment up the hill and look at the stars, watching out for the next alien invasion. He was thrilled when Donna went off in the TARDIS with The Doctor, waving goodbye to him.

In the Sontaran attack, Wilf proved his courage, looking after his daughter, Sylvia.

In Turn Left, Wilf is the strong heart and soul of the family as their world falls apart. An old soldier, he is devestated when he sees people being rounded up for 'labour camps' like 'last time'.

Wilf again proved the strongest of the family when the Daleks stole the Earth and started to round up people. Like an old soldier he tried to fight them, though unsuccessfully. Later, when Donna was returned to the family with her memory of knowing The Doctor gone, Wilf promised to remember him for her and saluted The Doctor as he left.

Wilfred is troubled by bad dreams at the start of End of Time. He knows the world needs The Doctor and sets out to find him. He is disturbed to discover that The Doctor doesn't have the answers, either, but joins with him to try to get to the bottom of things. He ends up in a desperate struggle, first against The Master, and then against the Time Lords themselves.

Wilf was inadvertently the cause of The Doctor's regeneration. He became trapped in the radiation chamber from the Immortality Gate, and of course The Doctor took his place, sacrificing his own life for Wilf's.
