Ashton is a black marketer who cares nothing for the plight of the human prisoners of the Daleks as long as he makes a profit out of them. He knows a way in and out of the camp, but does nothing to rescue anyone, unless they have gold or jewels to pay him. It does not seem to have occurred to him that such things must be worthless in the destroyed economy.

Death – Ashton is killed by the Slyther when it attacks the hut where he is negotiating with Wells.
