David was one of the leaders of the London resistance along with Dortmun and Tyler. He helped to rescue The Doctor from the Daleks and looked after him and Susan. He formed an attachment to Susan and a good relationship with The Doctor, who saw that his granddaughter was in good hands with him. When the battle was won, it was clear that she wanted to stay with him. Susan was going to stay with The Doctor, but he locked her out of the TARDIS and made her choose David for her own good.
