Charles Preslin is an apothecary and medical pioneer in 16th century France when scientists were often at odds with the church. He was visited by the Doctor a few days before the St. Batholomew's Day Massacre. Preslin had incurred the wrath of the Abbot of Amboise and, with the Doctor's help, was able to flee to Germany, escaping the trouble.
