Vrestin is the female third member of the advance guard of Menoptra. She escapes the attack by the Zarbi. Later she meets up with Ian and they encounter the Optera. Vrestin realises that they were once Menoptra but evolved into flightless underground living creatures when the Animus destroyed the surface. She leads the Optera in their part in the battle against the Animus and later brings them to the surface, where she promises that they will evolve again into flying creatures.
