Wells is a prisoner in the mining camp. He negotiates with a black marketer called Ashton who is still free, but sneaks into the camp to barter food for valuables. He defends Ian and Larry when Ashton threatens to kill them and ensures they have some food. When the Slyther breaks into the hut he escapes and is later involved in the final revolt of the human slaves in the mine against the Daleks.
