Edward Waterfield was a 19th Century professor whose static electricity time travel experiments, conducted with Theodore Maxtible, drew the Daleks to Earth. They then took his daughter, Victoria, hostage. Using the alias of "J. Smith", Professor Waterfield helped the Daleks capture the Doctor.

Death: When he realised that the Daleks would never live up to their end of the bargain he eventually gave his life to stop their plan and save The Doctor.
