These androids were used by the Cybermen to guard a bomb hidden on Earth, linked to their controllers and providing visual monitoring of the area. They had palm-mounted weapons that reduced Human beings to a mass of bubbling goo. However these androids were susceptible to concentrated blaster fire. They were programmed for self-preservation and also to protect the place where the bomb was. Attacking the bomb caused them a serious conflict of programming.
