Van Lutyens

Character actor John Abineri, whose Austrian parentage led to him being typecast as German officers in many wartime dramas, had a slightly wider variety of roles in Doctor Who. In 1968 for Fury From The Deep he was Dutch engineer, Van Lutyens. In 1970, for the Third Doctor story Ambassadors of Death he was the Brigadier’s superior officer, General Carrington. In 1974, for Death to the Daleks he was Richard Railton, one of the Human explorers of Exxilon. Finally, in 1979 in the Fourth Doctor story, Power of Kroll he was the shaman of the tribe of Kroll worshippers in the most outlandish costume and make up since he was Herne the Hunter in Robin of Sherwood.

Carrington, Railton, both men under pressure.

Ranquin, Worshipper of Kroll. At least he had a speaking part. A lot of hopeful actors spent their time wearing green body paint and loincloths and dancing stupidly while chanting "Kroll, Kroll, Kroll". No doubt wishing they could change it to "Skoll, Skoll, Skoll."
