Toberman

Roy Stewart played two roles in Doctor Who, both of which rather patronisingly played on the fact that he was a well-muscled black man. Toberman in The Tomb of the Cyberman was a virtual slave of Kaftan, called upon whenever brute force was necessary and in Terror of the Autons in 1971 he played “Tony” the circus strongman, dressed in a tiger skin ‘Tarzan’ outfit and described as the ‘strong silent type’.
