John Nathan Turner
JNT as he was fondly known, worked on Doctor Who on the floor crew as early as 1969. In 1980 he became the ninth producer of Doctor Who, staying with the programme until 1989. He introduced many innovations which were either loved or hated by fans. Early in his tenure he changed the arrangement of the theme tune and replaced the familiar vortex title sequence with the starfield that became the signature of Doctor Who for the 1980s. He was also responsible for the idea of putting question marks on The Doctor's shirt collars and the jumper and brolly handles of the Seventh Doctor. Many fans and some of the actors involved felt the character of The Doctor was being trivialised by these ideas, but love him or hate him, John Nathan Turner made his mark as a Doctor Who producer.
