John as The Fool in RSC's King Lear John Normington was a regular performer with the RSC from 1963 and also appeared with the Royal National Theatre. His many TV and film roles include Doctor Who and its spin-off series Torchwood, Yes Minister and the 1978 film version of The Thirty-Nine Steps. The director of the Royal Shakespeare Company said of him "John leaves a large hole in our company. "
Morgus and The President John Normington was Morgus in Peter Davison’s last episode, The Caves of Androzani and four years later, Trevor Sigma, the census enumerator in The Happiness Patrol.

He also played the older Tom Flanagan in the Torchwood episode, Ghost Machine and as such is one of a select group of actors to play in both Doctor Who and its spin off.
