Kevin Manser was born in Adelaide, South Australia. At age 28 he left his job with the government utility Engineering and Water Supply to seek his fortune as an actor in London. Initially working as a stage manager, was later able to act in theatre and television. In 1963 he was cast as one of the original Daleks. This led to regular work on Doctor Who and in other British TV programmes until 1969, when he returned to his native Australia and continued to work in TV as well as becoming involved in Australian Doctor Who conventions. After he was diagnosed with cancer he wrote his autobiography The Memoirs of a Dalek.
