Malcolm was a scriptwriter for Doctor Who during the latter Patrick
Troughton era and some of the best remembered Jon Pertwee episodes,
including The Sea Devils (1972) and Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974).
As well as Doctor Who he worked on the ABC TV Pathfinders science
fiction series which preceded Doctor Who and also series such as The
Avengers, The Protectors, Danger Man, Crossroads, football soap United!
and Gideon's Way. His scripts for Doctor Who were noted for avoiding
obvious plot devices. In at least two of his scripts, Invasion of
the Dinosaurs and Ambassadors of Death the villain of the piece was
a senior army officer, placing military figures under the microscope,
and his Silurian story brought in the startling idea that Humans weren’t
always right to kill ‘monsters’.
