Geordie actor, Roger Avon, remembered for 70s TV hits like When The Boat Comes In and The Likely Lads, as well as a role in the 1990s mini series, Our Friends in The North, played two roles in Doctor Who during the mid 1960s. In 1965, he was Saphadin, brother of Saladin, in The Crusade, the infamous episode where white actors ‘blacked up’ to play arab roles. A year later, he was Daxtar, a short lived character in the marathon Dalek Master Plan
