Captain John Hart, is a rogue Time Agent of the now disbanded Time Agency and former partner of Jack Harkness, both professionally and sexually. He has been in rehab for drink, drugs, sex and murder. Using the technology in his wristlet, Captain John first appeared through the Rift to ask for help in locating three radioactive cluster bombs, apparently scattered across Cardiff. It turned out, however that the containers were a lure set by a woman he had murdered in order to trap and Kill John. He was saved by the efforts of the Torchwood team, and Captain Jack forced him to leave because he could not be trusted. However, he left a chilling message to Jack – that he had found Gray. It later transpired that Gray was controlling Captain John in an attempt to kill Jack. John professed his love for Jack and tried to help him. When he left a second time, it was as friends, and there seemed to be trust between them at last. But it has cost the lives of two Torchwood team members.
Born, 20 August 1962 in Greenville, California, USA, James Marsters graduated from Davis High School and attended Juilliard, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and the American Conservatory Theatre. After spending ten years doing stage work he finally moved to L.A. to pursue a career in film and television. After appearing in several guest roles he finally got his big break as Spike in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997). Originally the character was supposed to be killed after a few episodes but Spike became so popular that he became a regular on the show. After the show ended he appeared as Spike in the spin-off "Angel" (1999) and in several movies. James is also a talented musician; his band Ghost of the Robot released their first album, Mad Brilliant.
