Tom Erasmus Flanagan was a small boy evacuated from London in 1941, who appeared as a ghost to Gwen when the ghost machine operated accidentally in the railway station. Later, Gwen met the elderly Tom who explained that, with his family dead in London, he stayed in Wales and raised a family of his own there.

John Normington was born 28 January 1937, in Dukinfield, Cheshire and died 26 July 2007, Kensington, London, only seven months after his role in Torchwood. He trained as an opera singer at the Northern School of Music and made his stage debut in the 1950 production of "The Happiest Days of Your Life". Later became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is noted as the first actor from 'Classic' Doctor Who to have appeared in Torchwood.
