A number of actors have appeared in both Doctor Who and Torchwood. Some of them have transferred their characters from Doctor Who. Others have played roles in both. Here is the list so far!

John Barrowman – Captain Jack Harkness

Captain Jack first appeared with The Doctor in The Doctor Dances. He was with the Ninth Doctor all the way to the final confrontation with The Doctor. After that, we later learnt that he landed on Earth in 1869 and waited to meet The Doctor again. He had become immortal when Rose brought him back to life on the Game Station. After various adventures through the twentieth century he became director of Torchwood, Cardiff.

Naoki Mori - Toshiko Sato

Dr Sato and the Alien Pig

Doctor Sato was in charge of examining the alien pig that crashed into the Thames at the start of the Slitheen plot. She was not, in fact, a doctor. She is a computer and technology expert. She pretended to be a doctor in order to cover for Owen who had a hangover and couldn't attend the emergency.

Eve Myles – Gwynneth/Gwen Cooper

Gwynneth

Gwynneth was the servant girl who died when the Gelth tried to get through the rift in Cardiff in 1869. In Torchwood, she plays Gwen Cooper, a former police officer who joined the team and became a lynchpin of their operations.

Gwen Cooper made the crossover to Doctor Who when the Daleks stole planet Earth and placed it in the Medusa Cascade with twenty-six other planets. She and Ianto were under attack by a Dalek that had breached the Hub when a timelock initiated, freezing the Dalek.

Ianto and Jack share an intimate moment.

Ianto Jones was Jack's second last recruit to the reorganised Torchwood Three when he took charge of it. After it was discovered that he had been hiding his partially cyber-converted girlfriend in the basement of the Hub he went through a difficult time, but his relationship with Jack was one reason for staying and becoming a more fully integrated member of the team.

Freema Agyeman – Adeola/Martha Jones

Adeola

As Adeola, Freema was with Torchwood One in the Doctor Who episode, Army of Ghosts. She was killed by the Cybermen. Later, she turned up as Martha Jones, cousin of Adeola, who joined up with The Doctor and later met Jack Harkness. Her debut in Torchwood as Martha was hotly anticipated.

Paul Kasey – Weevil/Blowfish/Assorted Monsters

Paul Kasey, himself

Paul Kasey is one of the few people who have played roles in Doctor Who, Torchwood AND Sarah Jane Adventures. In Torchwood he has been a Weevil and a Blowfish so far. In Doctor Who he is used every time a full body prosthetic is required.

John Normington – Thomas Flannigan/Trevor Sigma/Morgus

Morgus

One of John Normington’s last roles was as the old London barrowboy Thomas Flannigan. Much earlier, in ‘Classic Doctor Who’ he had played Trevor Sigma the census taker in Happiness Patrol and Morgus in Caves of Androzani.

Owen Teale – Ewan Sherman/Maldak

Maldak of Varos

Owen Teale was the nasty cannibal Ewan in Countrycide. In Doctor Who he played Maldak in Vengeance on Varos.

Registrar

Robert Barton played Martin, one of the Cannibals in Countrycide. In Doctor Who, he is the registrar who married Rose’s parents.

Yasmin Bannerman – DCI Swanson/Jabe

Jabe

DCI Swanson is one of Torchwood’s police links, one who has a very fixed opinion about them. In Doctor Who, she was Jabe, the elegant tree woman who sacrificed herself for The Doctor’s effort to save everyone else on Platform One.

Steve played Josh, the nasty DVD rental clerk who tricked Eugene in Random Shoes. He was the voice of Pilot Kelvin in the animated Doctor Who, Infinite Quest.

Sean Carlsen – Mr Grainger/Policeman

Policeman

Mr Grainger was the leader of Cardiff Council, brutally murdered by the first of the alien sleepers. In Doctor Who he played the policeman who watched the people going up to the roofs in The Christmas Invasion.

a stuntman who also does a bit of acting was a paramedic turned a\lien killer in Sleeper and has been responsible for stunts in a number of Doctor Who episodes.

Richard Briers, British comedy veteran, was the deranged Chief Caretaker of Paradise Towers for the Seventh Doctor's first season. In 2008, he had a more relaxing role as the drying millionaire Henry Parker in the Torchwood Episode, A Day in The Death

Nerys Hughes - Brenda Williams/Todd

Nerys was Todd, part of a research team on the Kinda planet in the 1981 Fifth Doctor story. In 2007 she was Rhys's mother, Brenda, in Something Borrowed, as well as a very gruesome shapeshifter.

William Thomas - Geraint Cooper/Martin/Mr Cleaver

Martin

William Thomas played a character called Martin who worked in the funeral home where The Doctor had left the Hand of Omega's casket in Remembrance of the Daleks. He returned as the ill-fated Mr Cleaver who became a Slitheen Snack. Having played Gwen's father, Geraint in the Torchwood episode Something Borrowed, he becomes the first actor to have appeared in classic and new Doctor Who and Torchwood.

Julian Bleach/Ghostmaker/Davros

Julian Bleach was the sinister Ghostmaker in the Torchwood episode From Out Of The Rain. He crossed over to Doctor Who to portray the creator of the Daleks, Davros in Stolen Earth/Journey's End.

Clare Clifford

Clare Clifford played Kyle in the fifth Doctor story Earthshock, in 1982.

In 2008 she was the terrorist and blackmailer, Milton, in Torchwood episode, Fragments


Peter Capaldi

Pater Capaldi was a famous choice to play Cacaelius, the marble dealer whose family were rescued from Pompeii by The Doctor and Donna

He played a magnificently hard, ruthless, and also hightly emotional Mr John Frobisher, the civil servant caught up with the mystery of the 456 in Torchwood, Children of Earth.


Lachelle Carl

 

Lachelle Carl and the newsreader Trinitty Wells is the only character to have appeared in Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor Who and Torchwood. Paul Casey in various roles is the only other actor to have appeared in all three.


Colin McFarlane

Well known voice actor, Colin McFarlane, was the voice of The Host in the 2007 Christmas special, Voyage of The Damned. In 2009, he played General Pierce in Torchwood: Children of Earth.


Luke Perry

Child actor Luke is a crossover from Doctor Who, having played the son of Mr Lloyd, the butcher in The Doctor Dances in 2005 and Ianto's nephew, David Davies in Torchwood: Children of Earth.

 


Madeleine Rakic-Platt

Madeleine played Ella, one of Donna's children in the virtual reality world of Forest of the Dead. She went on to play Lilly Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Julia played Young Rose in the Doctor Who episode Father's Day before playing Holly Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth.
