Elisabeth Sladen is another who has almost never really left Doctor Who. Her last regular episode was in 1976 but her character, Sarah Jane Smith, continued to be a fan favourite. This brought regular work in Conventions and public appearances as well as the Big Finish Audio, and eventually brought her back to Doctor Who for School Reunion in 206 and the spin-off Sarah Jane Adventures in 2007. Inbetween she had numerous small roles in TV and films and was rarely unemployed even though no character quite measured up to Sarah Jane. Briefly in 1996, she got to play “a” doctor if not “the” doctor as Dr. Pat Hewland in the long running Peak Practice.
