Mary Tamm left Doctor Who because she did not feel the character of Romana stretched her talents enough. Specifically she did not want to be continuously cast as a 'damsel in distress'. Since then, she has had two major TV roles, Pennie Crosbie in Brookside and Yvonne Edwards in Paradise Heights Other than that her TV career has not been especially outstanding, consisting mostly of guest spots in series such as The Bill, Holby City, Casualty, Jonathon Creek.
