Peter Purves didn't suffer so much from being typecast as a Doctor Who actor, as in his later career as a Blue Peter presenter. The clean cut children's TV image of that programme made it hard for him to make a transition into adult programming. His main work since Blue Peter, has been as presenter of Crufts dog show. He is a regular convention attendee, however and regards his time on Doctor Who as a highlight of his career. He is a dog lover, not surprisingly, and involved in several animal charities.
