After Doctor Who, Richard Franklin mostly worked in theatre, with only occasional appearances on TV in episodes of programmes such as Heartbeat. He has done several Big Finish Audio recordings, reprising his character of Mike Yates.

He has been rather unsuccessfully involved in politics, first as a Liberal Democrat candidate, then for the Referendum Party, and then forming his own party, The Silent Majority Party, which sadly for his hopes of a political career seems rather to have attracted only a silent MINORITY.
