Before he was "famous" - As Sir Lancelot.

William Russell, real name Russell Enoch, played Ian Chesterton for 77 episodes of Doctor Who in the 1960s. As with all of the most iconic characters he does the convention circuit but has been in work as an actor almost constantly since leaving the show. He never, it is true, had a long running TV character equal to Ian, but his credits include parts in some of the most memorable series of the 1970s, 80s and 90s, including Van der Valk, the Professionals, Blackadder, Robin of Sherwood, Boon, Coronation Street, Heartbeat and Poirot. His main career, however was in theatre rather than TV, including a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He also worked for some time as an executive of the actor’s union, Equity. He is semi retired and still married to his wife, Balbina, who is a physician. One of their three children is Alfie Enoch, who followed in his father’s footsteps as an actor, playing the role of Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter movies.
